A weekend home in a mango orchard.

Fifty earthen cottages, 30 minutes from Lambasingi hill station. Yours to keep, ours to run.

Villeggiatura: the old Italian habit of leaving the city for a house among orchards.

We built one for your weekends: a private cottage in a working mango orchard, with a café, kitchen and pool shared by everyone on the estate, and a team that looks after it all.

Friday to Sunday

A weekend, here.

  1. A curving path between earthen cottages and mango trees, a grassy mound beside it.

    Friday, 7 pm

Leave the car at the gate. The orchard takes it from here.

  2. Two people cycle along a lit path between cottages and mango trees.

    Saturday, 7 am

A ride between the mango trees, before the heat.

  3. Children play in a sand pit under mango trees while parents sit nearby.

    10 am

The children find the sand pit. You find the veranda.

  4. Families swim in the pool beside the brick café.

    1 pm

Lunch by the water, from the café.

  5. Families shape clay at a long table under a brick-pillared pavilion.

    4 pm

Clay and slow hands, under the brick pavilion.

  6. Families gathered around a stone fire circle at night, lanterns in the trees.

    8 pm

    Dinner outdoors, then the fire.

  7. Two people on loungers on a timber deck under a starry sky.

    11 pm

No city light. Only the deck, and the sky.

  8. A woman walks down a shaded path between old mango trees.

    Sunday, 9 am

One more walk through the trees before the drive home.

The double cottage: earthen walls, a tiled roof with a front gable, stone steps and a bay window, among mango trees.

The cottage

Built from the ground it stands on.

  • Earth

Thick earthen walls that stay cool through the afternoon.

  • Stone

A stone plinth and steps that lift the cottage off the ground.

  • Timber and tile

A deep tiled roof, and a children’s mezzanine under the ridge.
